Mr. Jefferson allows the boys and two of their friends to vacation on his island, but the fun outing soon takes a turn for the worse: among missing supplies, a snow storm, and a shady figure named Mr. Haneligh who keeps trying to assert his authority over the island, the boys realize that there may be more to the eccentric old man and his past than they first thought.
